EsPlásticos launches Spain’s first Plastics Industry Strategy

EsPlásticos, the platform that represents the main players in the plastics value chain in Spain, has presented a roadmap that includes challenges and measures to improve the sector's competitiveness and progress toward climate neutrality.

The Spanish Plastics Industry Strategy charts the path to develop a more sustainable, competitive, and innovative sector. It also identifies priority areas that are key for the sector to address current challenges and establish concrete measures such as regulatory harmonization, infrastructure improvement for waste management, education and awareness about the benefits of plastics, and training of sector professionals.

This document includes several strategic measures that are key:

  • R&D&I in eco-design and production processes: Promote research and development in eco-design and digital transformation of the sector.
  • Positioning and professionalization of SMEs: Support small and medium-sized enterprises to strategically position themselves and professionalize.
  • Training of professionals: Prepare new generations and sector professionals with tools and specific training in digitalization and advanced recycling.
  • Promotion and education: Promote education and awareness about the importance of plastics in sustainability and their responsible use.
