The Repsol Technology Lab is Repsol's technological R&D headquarters. With more than 230 scientists and international experts, this technological hub is the company's engine of innovation and the epicenter where products and technological solutions are developed to boost the energy industry.

The true value of Repsol Technology Lab lies in our people. Scientists and technology experts from different scientific disciplines work every day to produce innovative products and technological solutions that will transform the energy industry. 

  • Laboratories, where ideas become reality

    Repsol Technology Lab laboratories are equipped with the latest techniques for experimentation and analysis, focused on the development of new products of renewable origin. To accelerate these developments, they rely on the latest technologies, such as robotics and artificial intelligence. 

  • Pilot plants, scaled replicas of our industrial complexes

    Our pilot plants is where we develop small-scale recreations of processes. Equipped with high-tech equipment, they reproduce the same processes that are carried out in industrial complexes, simulating identical conditions and monitoring all variables. Their purpose is to:

  • Test new raw materials.

  • Optimize operational efficiency.

  • Maximize operations.

Areas of expertise: our Tech Lab's lines of research

Our scientists have extensive experience and a wide range of skills: advanced mathematics, chemical and industrial engineering, biotechnology, computational chemistry, robotics, digital technologies, etc.

Analytics

Analysis and development of new advanced analytical techniques for the study of physical and chemical properties of both new raw materials and products.

Image and solids

We characterize solids using physical methods and specialized instrumentation to create constitutive models and predict behaviors.

Circular economy

Analysis of materials from waste and new laboratory techniques to study new processes and materials.

Formulation

We design lubricants, fuels, and new products made with renewable raw materials, developing more efficient and sustainable formulas.

Fluids

We analyze the chemical components of lubricants and fuels, raw materials, and renewable products using liquid and gas chromatography.

Industrial

We have more than 35 pilot plants capable of simulating most of the processes taking place in our industry with real-life conditions.

Engines

We have six test cells with different engine types and a climate chamber for complete vehicle testing.

Blending

We have a production plant for fuel additives, as well as racing fuels and lubricants.

First center in Europe with the HR Excellence in Research seal

Repsol Technology Lab is the first research center of a private company to receive the European HR Excellence in Research certification, awarded by the European Commission. The recognition highlights our commitment to a human resources strategy that promotes a favorable working environment for researchers.

Low carbon and circular economy

Renewable fuels, renewable hydrogen, or CO2 capture and use, as drivers to transform the industry and reduce the carbon footprint.

Advanced mobility and renewables

We work on the development of technologies for a responsible mobility, household energy management, energy efficiency, and renewables.

Asset optimization

Artificial intelligence, IoT, machine learning, or robotics are the tools that allow us to accelerate the transformation of our plants and industrial processes.
